On Nov. 2, at the U.S. Army Europe and Africa headquarters on Clay Kaserne, the Wiesbaden Warrior Battalion honored the community’s veterans and retirees during the annual Retiree Appreciation event. The battalion continued its longstanding tradition of supporting this gathering, where every retiree and veteran was recognized for their service and sacrifice.

Cadets from the battalion were present to greet attendees, assisting those needing additional help or information. Cadet 2nd Lt. Amelia Craven highlighted the battalion’s commitment to honoring veterans: “It is very important to the JROTC to support the community and show that we care for our veterans. The cadets involved loved to volunteer and speak with the retirees.”

Cadet Cpl. Rowan Confer added, “Our support shows veterans that we are here to support them — just like they supported us.”

The ceremony began with the posting of the colors by the Wiesbaden Warrior color guard, featuring both the German and American flags, followed by the Wiesbaden High School Choir’s performance of the national anthems.

Throughout the ceremony, the Warrior Battalion worked to ensure that veterans and retirees were properly honored. Information relevant to retirees was updated, and the event offered a space for veterans to reconnect and gain information.

Glenn Renaa emphasized the importance of the gathering: “A lot of veterans don’t have the opportunity to come on base often. So this gives them the opportunity, once a year, to come on base and get what they need.”

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Bob Davis agreed, saying, “It’s really great with all of the representatives that brought everyone together and that they acknowledged and settled issues.”

Attendees were treated to a cake-cutting, allowing time for socializing and connection. Representatives from various organizations were present, offering services in healthcare, financial planning, and education benefits.

“This is important because veterans can get information of our services here all in one place. It provides an opportunity to help each other,” said David Puzicha-Dunn, a commissary representative.

This year’s Retiree Appreciation event was a great success, providing the community a chance to express appreciation for its veterans and retirees and to learn from their experiences and contributions.
