People Wiesbaden Warrior Battalion hosts Mid-Year Award and Change of Command Ceremony

On Jan. 14, the Wiesbaden Warrior Battalion celebrated its cadets' achievements during a mid-year award ceremony, a new tradition introduced to ensure all cadets are recognized for their accomplishments throughout the year.
Wiesbaden Warrior Battalion in previous years, held a single award ceremony at the end of the school year. Senior Army Instructor Lt. Col. John Ring recognized the need for change, stating that cadets completing their classes earlier in the year deserved timely acknowledgment of their hard work. The mid-year ceremony provided a formal platform to honor these cadets.
The event began with the presentation of colors by the Warrior Battalion Color Guard, who marched forward carrying the American and battalion flags. The national anthem followed, and Cadet Maj. Nicolas Hernandez then took the podium to narrate the ceremony and introduce the award recipients.
During the ceremony, cadets were presented with numerous ribbons and accolades. Notably, Cadet Bailey Foulk received the Distinguished Cadet Ribbon, an honor awarded annually to a single cadet who demonstrates outstanding academic and leadership excellence. Another highlight was the first-ever awarding of the Raider Team arc, cord, and ribbon, recognizing the achievements of the Warrior Battalion Raider Team.
“It was a lot of fun, and it was great to get my awards halfway through the year instead of trying to come back later,” said Cadet Sgt. First Class Lillie Redeen.
Following the awards portion, the battalion held a solemn Change of Command ceremony. Outgoing Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Jacob Barnes passed the battalion flag to Lt. Col. Ring, who then handed it to incoming Battalion Commander Cadet Lt. Col. Cydnee Lassiter. The symbolic passing of the flag represents the transfer of authority, responsibility, and leadership within the battalion.
“The Change of Command is always a sacred and powerful ceremony, signifying the transition of responsibility between one cadet to another,” said Barnes. “I am incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to lead the Warrior Battalion. The challenges and responsibilities of the job have helped me grow as a person and a leader. I look forward to seeing where Cydnee takes the battalion; we all have full faith and confidence in her abilities and leadership potential.”
The ceremony concluded with the entire battalion reciting the Cadet Creed, reflecting on their commitment to excellence and leadership.
By adding a mid-year awards ceremony, the Warrior Battalion continues to honor cadets' hard work and dedication while fostering a culture of recognition and growth throughout the school year.
