The DODEA-Europe High School STEMposium, held from Dec. 2–7, 2024, in Wiesbaden, Germany, united 116 students representing all DODEA-Europe high schools in an intensive weeklong challenge. The event tasked students with a simulated mission: to use their expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to establish first contact with an alien civilization and collaboratively "save the world."

Students were organized into teams of six, each member taking on a specialized role in biotechnology, environmental engineering, communication, rapid prototyping, robotics, or aerospace. Working together, they applied the engineering design process to develop innovative, interdisciplinary solutions to a high-stakes, futuristic scenario.

In addition to the mission challenge, students participated in daily "STEMinars," interactive workshops designed to expand their knowledge and refine their technical and collaborative skills. These sessions featured hands-on activities, real-world problem-solving scenarios, and mentorship from STEM professionals and educators. Topics ranged from sustainable technologies and advanced robotics to effective communication strategies in crisis scenarios.

The STEMposium's success was built on the dedication of DODEA teachers and staff, who not only guided students through the week but also inspired them to embrace creativity, leadership, and resilience. Teachers provided mentorship, shared their passion for STEM education, and encouraged students to think critically and take calculated risks.

By the end of the week, students walked away with more than just newfound knowledge—they gained confidence, connections with peers across DODEA-Europe, and a deeper understanding of how STEM can be applied to solve global challenges. This annual event continues to serve as a cornerstone of DODEA-Europe’s commitment to fostering the next generation of engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers.
