WIESBADEN, Germany — Wiesbaden High School senior Teagan has turned her college aspirations into a source of inspiration for younger students through her work with the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Wiesbaden Middle School.

As part of her Career Practicum, Teagan chose to spend time with the middle school AVID program to better understand how its strategies support student success. Although she was not an AVID student herself, she brought experience as an honors student, JROTC leader and member of multiple honor societies.

From her first visit, Teagan quickly connected with seventh-grade AVID scholars. During an early presentation on organization, she shared practical strategies she used during the college application process, including color-coded calendars, backward planning from deadlines and spreadsheets to track scholarship submissions. The session prompted strong engagement from students, many of whom began discussing their own academic goals.

Over time, Teagan’s role evolved from guest speaker to mentor. Students followed her progress closely and celebrated milestones along the way, including her acceptance to Texas A&M University. When Teagan announced she was “Aggie Bound,” students marked the occasion by creating a congratulatory poster, reflecting the strong rapport she had built with the class.

Teagan’s journey to college included several challenges, including relocating to Germany before seventh grade, navigating remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and adjusting to new environments. Rather than remaining within her comfort zone, she pursued leadership opportunities, eventually serving as executive officer of the JROTC battalion, captain of the marksmanship team and vice president of the National Honor Society.

Her path reflects the core principles of determination and goal-setting emphasized by AVID. Teagan set her sights on attending Texas A&M University at a young age and worked consistently to achieve that goal while balancing academics, leadership responsibilities and extracurricular activities.

Through her involvement with the AVID program, Teagan demonstrated the value of planning, perseverance and accountability. Teachers noted that her presence helped students build confidence and better understand how daily habits connect to long-term success.

As Teagan prepares to begin the next chapter of her education at Texas A&M University, her influence will continue to resonate with Wiesbaden Middle School AVID scholars. Her experience shows how one student’s commitment and willingness to lead can motivate others to pursue their goals with focus and determination.
